A Kid Like Jake

Director: Silas Howard

Directed by trans filmmaker Silas Howard (Transparent), this star-studded
drama sensitively explores what it might mean to raise a gender non-conforming child. Alex (Claire Danes) and Greg (Jim Parsons) are progressive, middle class New Yorkers and parents to five-year-old Jake, who loves playing dress up and acting out fairy tales. When the time comes to enrol Jake in school, Alex and Jim are encouraged by their friend Judy (Octavia Spencer) to use his ‘gender expansive play’ to help apply for scholarships. But they worry about prematurely labeling their child and do everything they can to protect him.
