Synopsis

Two of the unlikeliest purveyors of gay pornography are the centre of this utterly charming and engaging documentary about the infamous West Hollywood gay porn store and distributor, Circus of Books.

At the heart of this iconic space are Karen and Barry Mason, an elderly married Jewish couple who have ran the shop (much to the chagrin of their adult children and peers) since the 70s.

Captured with intimate affection by their bemused daughter and featuring interviews with pornographer and activist Larry Flynt and gay porn star Jeff Stryker, this is ultimately a beautiful tribute to two allies who created a welcoming haven for gay men to gather, organise and get off.

Review

“A very funny, very moving documentary.”
