IDAHOBIT Day is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, and is observed on Friday 17 May. 

To celebrate and support our LGBTQIA+ community we are presenting a series of short family friendly films curated by the Melbourne Queer Film Festival on the Saturday 18 May in the Bunjil Place Plaza. 

The carefully curated MQFF film program by will recognise the diversity and strengths of the LGBTQIA+ community.

A decolonial tale of reconnection and a return to valuing queer Moana from the team who made the award winning Kapaemahu. This is beautiful animated storytelling, and a love story with an element of surprise!

Still grieving the death of his boyfriend, Eric has to host his partner’s mum, Ming, who is visiting from China and has no idea about their relationship. This beautiful film won the City of Melbourne Award for Best Australian Short Film at the 2023 MQFF.

Weedling

Angie Black, Australia, 18 mins

Domestic violence disproportionately affects trans and gender-diverse young adults. This heartfelt exploration of survival offers respite through nature’s grace. 

 

Happy New Year Ms Luna

Andy Diep, Australia, 17 mins

Luna, a young trans feminine woman, attends her family's annual Chinese New Year gathering for the first time since her transition.
