Got some questions about volunteering with MQFF?
Volunteering is an opportunity to be involved with the festival, make new friends, gain valuable experience, and give back to the LGTBQI+ community. If it’s your first time volunteering, have a read through our handy Frequently Asked Questions below.
How do I apply to be a volunteer?
Volunteer applications open on Wednesday August 07. All new and previous volunteers will need to complete this form.
When will I be notified of my application?
All applicants (successful or unsuccessful) will be notified in September. We appreciate your patience.
What are the requirements for being a volunteer?
All volunteers must be 18+ and available for a minimum of two shifts. Good communication skills are essential for Front of House Volunteers and Volunteer Coordinators.
How long is a volunteer shift?
Each shift is approximately 3-5 hours, depending on the film schedule.
Do I need a Working with Children Check?
Yes, all volunteers need a valid WWCC. Apply here and send the receipt of your application.
Do I need to wear or bring anything to my volunteer shift?
Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lanyard to wear during shifts.
Can I pick my own volunteer shifts?
Yes, you will receive instructions on selecting your preferred shifts via the Deputy app.

Will MQFF cover my expenses while volunteering?
No, volunteers must cover their own food and transport costs.
