Got some questions about volunteering with MQFF?

Volunteering is an opportunity to be involved with the festival, make new friends, gain valuable experience, and give back to the LGTBQI+ community. If it’s your first time volunteering, have a read through our handy Frequently Asked Questions below.

How do I apply to be a volunteer?

Volunteer applications open on Tuesday 8 August. To apply to be a volunteer with MQFF, please complete the online form on the Volunteer webpage. Ensure to fill out all of the form to your best ability and submit once completed. All new and previous volunteers need to complete this form.

When will I be notified of my application?

Volunteer applications close on Friday 8 September, 5:00pm. All applicants (successful or unsuccessful) will be notified by the end of September. We thank you for your patience while we process your application.

How long is a volunteer shift?

Each Front of House Volunteer shift is approximately 3 – 6 hours, depending on the length of films programmed during your shift..

Do I need a Working with Children Check?

All Volunteers are required to have a valid Working With Children Check as part of the Working With Children Act 2016 – this is a requirement of the cinema venues that screen MQFF. All applicants will need to provide evidence that they possess a valid WWCC or have requested one. You can apply for a Working with Children Check here. Send through a receipt of your application after applying. Applications without a WWCC or receipt of request will not be considered. There is no fee for applying for a Working with Children Check if you are a volunteer.

Do I need to wear or bring anything to my volunteer shift?

All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and volunteer lanyard either prior to their first shift, or when they arrive at their first shift. All volunteers are required to wear their volunteer t-shirt and lanyard while they are on shift.

Can I pick my own volunteer shifts?

You will receive detailed instructions on how to select your preferred volunteer shifts across the Festival. MQFF uses the Deputy to roster volunteer shifts and can be accessed online or through the app. Thanks for your patience.

Why should I volunteer with MQFF?

Volunteering with MQFF will give you hands-on experience and valuable skills to advance your work experience. We believe that volunteering should be a rewarding experience, which is why all volunteers receive 1 x complimentary ticket for every shift you complete!

Will MQFF cover my expenses incurred while volunteering?

All volunteers must cover their own costs incurred while completing a volunteer shift. This includes food and transport.
