MQFF volunteer applications are open 🌈✨

We’re looking for friendly, film-loving folks from across the LGBTQIA+ and ally community to help bring Australia’s largest queer film festival to life!

If you have a passion for film, events, festivals and connecting with the queer community, then we want to hear from you! MQFF volunteer roles provide the opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable industry experience, make friends, and give back to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Successful applicants will be notified in September. The mandatory online volunteer induction will be held before the festival, and an optional Volunteer Meet & Greet will take place in early November.

Volunteer Roles

ROLE
DESCRIPTION

Front of House Volunteers (FOHVO)

Love interacting with people? Our FOHVOs are key to a great festival experience!

You’ll be:
• Welcoming and scanning tickets for patrons
• Guiding attendees to seats and around venues
• Promoting the festival and providing info about the MQFF program
• Ensuring a fun and safe atmosphere for everyone
• Assisting the MQFF Venue Manager and Volunteer Coordinator

Estimated commitment: 1-3 shifts, each 3-5 hours long

Front of House Coordinators (VC)

Got leadership skills? Become a VC and lead our amazing team! Your role includes:

• Helping the MQFF Venue Manager assign tasks to volunteers (scanning, ushering, etc.)
• Supervising Front of House Volunteers
• Assisting with session management and volunteer tasks

Estimated commitment: 1-3 shifts, each 3-5 hours long

Photographers & Videographers

Skilled with a camera? We need talented photographers and videographers to capture the festival magic! Your tasks:

• Documenting MQFF events
• Photo and video editing
• Delivering content to tight deadlines

Estimated commitment: Up to 4 hours per event.

 

Requirements

• Must be over 18 years of age

• Minimum of three volunteer shifts during festival periods

• Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) required

 

Volunteers receive an MQFF t-shirt and one complimentary pass per completed shift.
