The Melbourne Queer Film Festival is held annually in November and showcases the best in new and retrospective LGBTQIA+ cinema with a wide array of features, shorts and documentaries.
The 2025 Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF35) will be held across 11 days: Thursday 13 November – Sunday 23 November. The entire suite of Short Film Packages and a select number of feature films will also be available to stream on MQFF+ from Friday 14 November – Sunday 30 November.

TICKETS
How can I buy tickets?
Online
Select, book, and print your tickets at home. Browse the program on the website, click on a film, and scroll to the payment options at the bottom of the page. Select your tickets, click ‘Add to Cart’, and follow the instructions to ‘Checkout’.
We recommend buying tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Download the app
Browse and purchase tickets on the official MQFF iPhone or Android app. No printing required – bring your smartphone, to be scanned at the door.
Can I buy tickets at the Box Office?
Tickets for MQFF 2025 will be available to purchase in person at each venue. Please note that purchases made in person will be card only, no cash. If you need assistance purchasing your tickets, please get in touch with us online at info@mqff.com.au, on the phone: 0466 643 976 or ask one of our helpful staff members at the cinema venues.
We always recommend buying tickets online, and well in advance, to avoid disappointment.
Is there a streaming option for MQFF?
The full MQFF 2025 program will screen in-cinema from the 13 – 23 Nov 2025.
Our online streaming option, MQFF+ will also be running from Monday 17 November – Sunday 30 November 2025 featuring a selection of features and shorts packages. The MQFF+ program will be announced on Tuesday 28 Oct, and will be listed here.
Are concession tickets available?
Yes, concession tickets are available for valid concession card holders, which include:
- Full-time students
- Pensioners
- Unwaged
- Seniors
Concession prices will be listed on the individual film booking pages. You will be required to show your valid concession card upon entry to the cinema, or you will be required to purchase a full-price ticket for entry.
Blaktix – $13 tickets are available for First Nations people. Available for general sessions and subject to availability.
Get cheap tickets to the hottest titles each day! $13.50 concession tickets will be available for select sessions for concession card holders. Concession rush tickets will be available at the MQFF Box Office located at Cinema Nova, on the day of each screening. Tickets are subject to availability, and ticket buyers must hold a valid concession card to book.
Will there be allocated seating this year?
Allocated seating is an important aspect of MQFF’s commitment to accessibility for all community members, and will return for 2025.
It also means there is no need for queuing to get the best seats — simply select your preferred seats from the interactive seating map when booking. Book online to pick your preferred seats or use the MQFF app and let it choose the best available seats for you.
Will I be able to choose my own seating?
Like last year, tickets can be booked through the MQFF website and the MQFF app. We recommend booking through the MQFF website if you’d like to pick your exact seats in the cinema. Otherwise, when booking through the MQFF app, the system will automatically assign you the “best seats” in the house.

What are Film Passes and how do they work?
Film Passes offer great value, giving you significant discounts on the price of a single ticket. In fact, we’ve made some changes this year that will make booking tickets easier than ever before. Every Film Pass on sale can be redeemed for as many tickets as you like, for any session – there are no limitations.
For example, if you buy a 6 Film Pass, you can use all 6 tickets for one film and share it with friends or, spread it out across 6 different films. The choice is yours!
You must purchase the Film Pass first to create the pass number and then book your films on the pass by using the pass number to redeem $0 tickets. A one-off booking fee is applied to the purchase of a Film Pass, however there are no additional fees when redeeming your pass for film sessions.
3, 6 and 10 Film Passes are for standard sessions only. Keystone and special events require additional booking.
What is an All-In-Pass?
The All-In Pass is valid for a single ticket to all sessions and events, including Keystone and Special Events, across the 2025 program and is now available to all customers to purchase.
I bought a ticket but it hasn’t arrived!
Please check your spam folder for an email from noreply@mqff.com.au and your account details to ensure you have a valid email address. Still can’t find it? Contact info@mqff.com.au to assist with accessing your ticket.
Can I exchange my tickets?
Exchanges can be made up to 2 hours prior to the session start time.
To exchange online, simply login to your account online.
Single Tickets – In the “Tickets” tab of your account page, select the session you wish to exchange by clicking on the check box. See example below.
After selecting the session(s) you wish to exchange, click on the “EXCHANGE” button in the top navigation. See example below.
If you know the session you want to exchange for, you can use the “Quick Exchange” search field to search for the new session. If you want to browse the full program, you can add the exchange sessions to your cart by click “ADD TO CART”. You can then browse the program and add the new session(s) to your cart, ready to exchange.
Pass Bookings - Go to the ‘Passes’ tab of your account page, click the blue hyperlinked ‘View / Exchange Sessions’ button to the right of the relevant pass. A pop up window will appear, and you can select the relevant session and click ‘Exchange sessions’, and follow the instructions to exchange and Checkout.
Can I get a refund for my tickets?
All single tickets for regular cinema sessions are non-refundable but can, subject to availability, be exchanged for an equal or lesser-value ticket online. Any cost difference between the two tickets will not be refunded. Single ticket exchanges and pass exchanges close two hours prior to the session/event start time.
FILMS & SCREENINGS
A session is sold out. Will there be a standby queue on the day of the screening?
There will be an online waitlist on the event page of the sold-out session. All you need to do is enter your email address, and we will notify you if tickets become available for that session.
Where is MQFF screening this year?
We will be screening in cinema at four locations:
- The Capitol
- Cinema Nova
- Palace Cinema Kino
- Melbourne Town Hall

Where are the Keystone events?
Opening Night will be held at Palace Cinema Kino with and after part in Collins Place. Closing Night will be held at Melbourne Town Hall with the afterpart in situ. Centrepiece will be held at The Capitol Theatre, Melbourne.
How do I vote for a film?
From the Program page, select “Pick a Film” to see an entire list of the feature films. Rate your film with the stars just below the synopsis of the film. This year, we have our very on Letterboxd! So make sure you follow us and tag us.
To rate your favourite short film you can either do this through the MQFF app on the session page, or through the MQFF website logged into your account. The highest rated short film will receive the MQFF Audience Choice Award at the end of the Festival.
Please note: users must have purchased a ticket to the film in order to vote.
FESTIVAL LOUNGE
Will there be a Festival Lounge this year?
MQFF’s Festival Lounge at the bar/cafe of Cinema Nova where the vast majority of screenings will occur. MQFF Members enjoy a 25% discount on food and beverage and it’s a great place to meet fellow community members during the Festival.
ACCESSIBILITY
Are the MQFF venues accessible?
All of our cinema venues are wheelchair accessible. For full accessibility details, you can view our venue pages.
We’ve also created a visual story for each venue, to help you feel prepared on what to expect before you arrive including how to get around, what facilities are available, as well as sensory friendly spaces to be aware of.
Are foreign language films subtitled?
Yes, all foreign languages will be subtitled for all sessions. Please note: some films may include foreign language and English language – in some instances, English language is not subtitled.
Are there open captions for sessions during the festival?
Yes there will be a limited number of films with Open Captions. Look for the “OC” icon on the individual film booking page for Open Caption sessions. For a full list of session with Open Captions, visit here.
Are there sensory friendly sessions during the festival?
